Nursing is a calling, and for over twenty years I have struggled to serve my patients in a healthcare system that has ever more patients and increasingly strained resources. Healthcare should be about improved patient outcomes, but insurance requirements, billing codes, and bureaucracy- both government and corporate, are pulling the focus away from it’s original purpose. As a home health nurse – both field nurse and branch director, I came to understand that there are ample insurance resources for a patient AFTER the UTI goes septic, AFTER the pneumonia is severe, AFTER heart failure is filling the lungs with fluid, AFTER the preventable fall and hip fracture, and on and on, but not prior. Our service sees our clients BEFORE the hospitalization, and we create solutions immediately, bridging services right away.
